  Chair yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who cannot stand or lack the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions. Many of the basic body mechanics of the individual postures are retained, no matter the stance of the practitioner. Great fun for all!

  This chair yoga follows the Hatha Yoga style. The Hatha Yoga style introduce gentle stretches, deep breathing, relaxation, meditation and limbering of the joints. Hatha yoga can really help benefit students with all movement including focus on back/core strengthening. The balancing standing poses can help prevent injury. Stretches' with ankles, knees and hip help with mobility and greater flexibility. The standing poses for seniors help with balance and better mobility.

  Gina has a Certificate in Hatha Yoga Teacher Training from Sunshine Yoga May 2011, 200 Hours.

  In the advance watercolor we are going to practice many basic watercolor techniques and incorporating Color Theory concepts into our projects: Complementary, Secondary, Monochromatic, Analogues, warm, cool, high , and low intensity colors.

  We will be focusing on Composition and how to use your own images and create your own artwork.

  We will be learning about adding different textures by playing with many techniques like salt, alcohol, stamping, plastic wrap, sgraffito, transfers, ink, and gouache resist.

  In this drawing course you will strengthen many of the techniques you learnt from drawing one. You will acquire how to work larger, looser, use toned paper,  black paper, work on different surfaces and incorporate color.

  
  

  Many of the materials we used in our Drawing 1 will be used in drawing 2, please bring everything.  If you are new to Drawing 2 please check the drawing supplies on the Drawing 1 class description.

  A gentle yoga practice meant to limber all joints and glands in the body.  Working with the breath to discover strength, expansion and space within while cultivating a peaceful pleasant state of mind.

  Please bring a yoga mat to class.  There will be foam blocks and straps (props) provided as needed.  Remember to wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement.  Any and all abilities and bodies are welcome.  Each class is taught to accommodate all abilities.

  • Plastic tablecloth - this can get very messy, need to protect the table.
  • Plastic gloves - this is optional (it is very messy, will stain your fingers for a few days)
  • Roll of paper towel
  • Spray bottle - finer the mist the better
  • Eye dropper
  • Q tips / cotton pads
  • 99% Isopropyl alcohol - usually behind the pharmacy counter
  • Yupo Paper - Waterproof Synthetic paper. I recommend buying the full sheets rather than a pad and cut it down.  It's also much cheaper.
  • Pinata Alcohol Inks - these are nice and bright colours - see below for recommended colours.  You will need at least 6 colours to start and more if you would like.  you can buy these individually, usually around $8/bottle or in packs.
  • Copic Ink Refills - are also another great option for inks.  They are a bit more in cost. If getting Copic ink, you want the darkest tone of the colour you want.

  Bright yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, green turquoise and dark grey.

  Summary

  There is no instructor, but we share ideas and techniques.  The group will lend you some tools to try out during the introduction, but each participant must have their own tools after that.  As a minimum, a carving knife, gouge, sandpaper are needed, or if using power tools a Dremel and burrs.  Wear work clothes and have a good apron to catch the shavings and dust.  Participants, both men and women, range from beginner and up.  A fee is charged for the wood rough cut.

  Description

  The Wood Carving Club enjoys carving a variety of subjects including birds, animals and caricatures in the round and in relief. Carvings are normally in basswood which, although classified as a hardwood, is relatively easy to work with sharp hand tools and often has a fine, straight grain.

  The group chooses a common project and arranges the bulk purchase of basswood in order to share the cost between members. The bulk basswood is cut out into a rough shape for the project by one of the members using a bandsaw. Members can choose to complete the project or work on a project of their own.

  Some members may even complete more than one carving as each member works at their own pace. Carvings can be completed with just a sharp carving knife; however the addition of a carving gouge(s), and files can be useful. Over time, most add other tools. Some carvers use sandpaper.

  Carvers work on their projects while seated at a table. A shop apron is also a good idea but is not essential. Completed carvings can be painted, sealed with a clear sealing material or left unfinished. A burning tool can also be used to accent the woodcarving.

  Step-by-step instruction is not provided; however, member will assist beginners with carving tool selection, sharpening and usage. Since a number of members are completing the same carving project there is ample opportunity to observe the carving process at different stages and in different styles.

  One of the best ways to learn woodcarving is to observe and to attempt a carving yourself. If you have woodcarving tools, bring them along. Members will also be happy to provide information on where to purchase carving tools.

  Join us for this 45 minute fitness class created for all experience levels, designed to build your strength, flexibility, balance and cardiovascular health. Each session begins with a dynamic warm-up then transitions into a diverse series of exercise performed entirely from seated or standing positions, so there's absolutely no floor work required! (Unless you want an extra challenge ;)) Modifications are available for all exercises. You'll tackle a variety of movements including lunges, squats, core activation and aerobic intervals, all utilizing hand weights, resistance bands, or body weight.  Class wrap up with a cool down full-body stretch.

  All levels are welcome. Please bring your runners and a water bottle!

  What is Clogging?
  Clogging is a truly an American dance form the began in the Appalachian Mountains and now enjoy widespread popularity throughout the United States and around the world. This style of dance can be accompanied by traditional fiddle and bluegrass music OR it can be accompanied by country, pop or even rock music! We will be EXPLORING ALL genres of music in this class.
  
  No dance experience necessary - this is right FROM SCRATCH!

  CLOGGING IS LOWER IMPACT! 
  Clog dancing can be done by folks well into their 80's and beyond. Clogging is similar to Tap Dance as it is a "percussive style" dance but it is a very achievable style of dance for many people. It is both great body and mind workout a lot of jumping or hopping.
  
  What to wear/Footwear
  We do wear Tap Shoes in this class. The sound is very important for this style. Tap shoes aren't required for the first couple of classes. Paula can help you with this. Please wear comfortable breathable clothing and bring water.

  Course description:

  Zumba Gold is a low impact dance fitness class.  It is a follow the leader aerobics that explores not only Latin music but all kinds of music.  The moves are easy to follow and fun! This class is great for those who love music and dance.

  Instructor, Paula Bickford has been dancing for 40 years, teaching dance and fitness for 18 years.  Paula has been certified in Zumba since 2009.

  What equipment is required by the student to bring to class?

  None. Comfy clothes and running shoes.

  What level of competency should the student be at to attend this course?

  Participants should have good stability and movement abilities.

  Is a partner required?

  No.

  Join us for a beautifully curated Valentine's Day Floral Centerpiece Workshop, where participants will create a stunning medium-sized table-top arrangement inspired by the romantic colors and textures of the season. This hands-on workshop is perfect for beginners and floral enthusiasts alike-no experience is required, just a love of creativity!

  During the workshop, attendees will learn how to design and assemble a fresh floral centerpiece using seasonal flowers and greens. The palette will feature classic Valentine's Day hues: reds, pinks and whites, complemented by carefully selected artistic accents to enhance the Valentine's motif. Participants will gain foundational skills in floral arranging, including:
  

  • How to structure and build a balanced centerpiece
  • How to prepare, p lace and secure stems using floral design media
  • Tips and techniques for working with fresh flowers and seasonal greenery
  • Guidance on color harmony, texture and focal-point composition
  • Proper care instructions to ensure their arrangements stay fresh longer

  In addition to hands-on instruction, the workshop will include fun and insightful historical facts about the flowers and botanicals being used-exploring their cultural origins, symbolism and why they are traditionally associated with love and Valentine's Day.

  All required materials will be fully provided, including:
  

  • Fresh florals (red, pinks, whites and seasonal varieties)
  • Fresh greenery
  • Floral cutters and scissors
  • Design media (foam or equivalent)
  • Arrangement containers
  • Pails and all auxiliary tools needed for assembly
  • Artistic Valentine's Day-themed accents

  This interactive workshop will run approximately 90 minutes, allowing each participant plenty of time to craft a thoughtful, expressive and unique floral centerpiece.

  At the end of the session, every attendee will take home their own beautiful, one-of-a-kind Valentine's Day arrangement-the perfect way to celebrate the day of love and bring seasonal charm into their home.
